I finally got the chance to visit the BEAUTIFUL island of Caye Caulker! I have been wanting to go there for years and definitely plan on visiting again in the near future. My next trip will be to San Pedro, however, I will go to Caye Caulker again before 2021 ends. Maybe I will even start planning yearly trips there; yes, it was that amazing!

I dislike last minute planning of trips and activities, because things tend to go wrong. I prefer to be as prepared as possible. However, the idea of going to Caye Caulker was made last minute and we only had 3 days to plan our trip. We took for granted that there would be endless choices of accommodation on the island. While this is somewhat true, we learned that those choices QUICKLY reduce as you’re moving closer to your travel date. Caye Caulker is loved by many, so a lot of locals, along with tourists, are also planning their weekend trip to the island. I highly advise you to not wait until the last minute to secure your accommodation. You can easily end up having to settle for a place that does not fully suite your needs, which is exactly what happened to my friends and I.

Two Places You MUST Visit when in Caye Caulker

Caye Caulker has a few fun places to visit while you are there. Sadly, I was not able to stop at all of the main places I always hear about. I definitely will try them out when I go there next time, though. For now, these are the two places that I HIGHLY recommend that you visit while there.

This is a place I suggest that you spend an entire day at. The Northside Beach Club is on a small island off the island of Caye Caulker. It is about a 2-3 minute boat ride (which is free) to get to the location. The scenery at this place is absolutely beautiful. They have a few floating devices in the water that anyone can use. I mainly saw children using the different floating devices, however, I also went on them and had quite a lot of fun doing so.

  • Ensure that you take eco-friendly sun screen if you plan on visiting. The sun is extremely hot and you can easily get a very bad sun burn if you are not careful.
  • Mosquitoes and sandflies rarely ever bother me, however, my friends were being bitten the entire time we were on the island of Caye Caulker and at the Northside Beach Club. I recommend that you take an eco-friendly repellant along with you to combat this.
  • The food that we ordered was very delicious. The prices on their menu for food and drinks were a little pricey, however, the taste of the things we tried were absolutely worth the price.
  • I got a free drink (pictured above) while I was there because I was lucky enough to be at the bar at the same time the bartender was experimenting with a new drink she wanted to add to the menu. The drink was DELICIOUS!! I 100% would purchase it when I visit the Northside Beach Club again. She mentioned that she thinks she will call it the Fish Bowl. I am not certain if she will settle on that name or if she will change it at a later date.
  • There are swinging beds that you can rent for the day. Sadly, we arrived a little too late to be able to secure one. This section of the Northside Beach Club is known as the VIP Section. Next time, we will definitely ensure that we either arrive early enough to rent one of the VIP sections, or try to call and reserve it before-hand. Hopefully they allow us to do so.
  • For those of you who do not like swimming in the sea, they also have a BEAUTIFUL pool that you can pay to access. We did not have enough time to actually go in the pool, but I will find time to do so on my next visit.
  • The boat arrives and leaves the Northside Beach Club approximately every 30 minutes, so you don’t have to wait very long. The boat ride was smooth and fast, did I also mention it is free? 😁

Ice and Beans

I am a smoothie, shake, freshly squeezed juice, iced tea, and doughnut lover!! The famous Ice and Beans in Caye Caulker has all of those things and more. They have an extensive menu of DELICIOUS delicacies and drinks. It is basically impossible to try them all. We visited Ice and Beans every day that we were in Caye Caulker. I would have gone there more than once for the day, if the time allowed. I loved every single thing that I tried. One of the main things that I enjoyed about the experience is that they serve you countless samples while you are waiting for your order to be completed. It was through these samples that I realized that I love their Raspberry Iced Tea with medium sugar (pictured below).

You can tell them to put more, less, or medium sugar in your drinks so that it can better suit your taste. If you aren’t certain how much sugar you would like, I would suggest ordering your drink with less sugar and then have them add more sugar as your taste buds see fit.

I loved their mini doughnuts so much that I got an order of them every time I visited. I promise, you will not be disappointed with Ice and Beans. They have something for everyone!
